It was a mix of short-term disability, and then official maternity leave from the company, also in combination with the fact that we don’t have a strict vacation policy, it’s just take what you need when you need it, and we also have very flexible work-from-home policies.
Elise Wei is the Lead Front-End Engineer at Brief Technology, with a two-year-old daughter. We spoke in early 2015, while she was an Engineering Director at Monetate.
We talked about her path from fine art to tech, being the first female engineer at a company, being promoted while on maternity leave, and exercising her company’s take-it-when-you-need-it vacation and flexible remote work policies after her official maternity leave ended.
